The canopy carries a black UV coating on the underside, so it blocks sun as well as shedding rain. Six reinforced ribs give the frame more backbone than a typical pocket umbrella, which is where cheap ones fail first.

Is it automatic?

No, it opens and closes by hand. Extend the handle first, then push the canopy open.

Does it really block the sun?

The canopy has a black UV coating on the inside face, which is what does the sun blocking. It is designed to be used as a parasol as well as an umbrella.

Is the carry sleeve waterproof?

No, the sleeve is a fabric cover for storage rather than a waterproof case. Let the umbrella dry before putting it away.
